In need of a fasting buddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hello everyone that is reading this post. My name is Vanessa and today I am starting a fast for how long I am not sure. But the longest I have lasted before is 3 days and it was right. My hardest part of the fast is the first day because of all the cravings. But when I went passed the second day I felt really good. I am doing this for weight loss purposes and also because I want to have a better digestive system. From what I have read fasting helps in both those areas. The type of fasting that I am doing is with water only. I would love to find someone that has or will start fasting today or tomorrow. I do have a few questions too. 1. How much is too much water to drink?
2. Is boiled cooled down water count as purified?
3. What is the best way to stop or elimate cravings?
Thank you in advance for those who answer my questions. Well off I go. Tomorrow I will report on my status.

Hello Sweet1983 and welcome to the forum!

I won't be able to be your fasting buddy (I fast once a week for 36-38 hrs and I start this weekly fast every Sunday evening, after dinner), but for sure you can search for a fasting buddy on the Blogs of this forum. I will try answering your questions:

1. I think there is not such a thing as "too much" water. Drink as much as you like/as much as you feel like drinking. Personally, to get rid of the food cravings or get rid of a bad taste in my mouth (detox sign) I can even get to the point of drinking every 15 min. On my last long fast of 7 days, there were days when I drank 4 liters of water (aprox 1 gallon).

2. Purified water is spring water, plain or gaseous. I also drink steam distilled water. Tap water, even boiled, won't be pure - still has all the metals, etc. from the pipes.
Please read this thread for more info: www.fastingconnection.com/forum/30-Day-W...vs-Spring-water.html

3. As I said before, if you feel like putting something into your mouth, then let it be water. No matter how many sips you'll have to have ... I also found out that the gaseous mineral water did the trick for me - filled my stomach pretty quickly and gave the message to my brain that I was full. Short walks, reading an inspiring book (about fasting ) or ... maybe going to this website (credit to member kimberly183 of this forum) while imagining how one would look like if eating something like that, as sexy as a whale or a hippopotami

Good luck with your fast and be STRONG!

Sweet1983.. I can reiterate what Mamahuana has said; you should heed her expert advice.

Although I do dry fasting up to 3 days per week, I don't recommend anyong to fast dry until you have done a few hundred fasts, to make sure there's really very few toxins in your body. You have been "issued" a thirst sensation that covers forums like this one.

Boiling water does NOT purify it chemically.. actually, it only kills microbial life and concentrates chemicals as the only thing that is taken OUT of the water, is... pure water (steam)! So if there's nothing LIVING in the water, boiling makes no sense at all. Distilling may, if you catch up the evaporated water and condense it again.

But remember, and I have mentioned it several times on the forums: Water is the one substance we take in, with the lowest percentage of other chemicals in it. Thus concentrating on the water we drink makes mathematically no sense unless we first look at the things we eat.. or ate.

Our experience is that the fast gets easier from the 3rd day, since your body is then "fully catabolic" and needs no energy from food any more. And since you then live on fat, which is turned largely into Ketones, this should actually alleviate your stress: Ketones are almost as potent as anti-epileptic drugs (and sometimes more!) to stabilize the membranes of the nerve cells. Stabilized nerve cells tend to manage stress a lot better.

Boiled water is not "not good", it's just unnecessary in countries where the water is purified. If I would drink from a river and suspect it could be polluted with organic substances, I would boil it. It is the inorganic substances that becomes more concentrated in boiled water due to the evaporation process.

But please: Fasting becomes easier and more effective with experience. "If at first you fail, try, try again".. and think about starting off with one day a week.. I've been doing it for about 30 years and it really, really works.

Wow, I didn't know that fasting after the third day had does affects. I am glad to know cause that is one of my biggest problems. I get anxiety very quickly. But I have decided to start fasting tomorrow. I will be happy when I finish the first day. I wonder way it is harder for me now cause i have fasted for longer before. Oh, I really would like to know what is a good water company. I have been drinking polan spring water and recently I have been having a lot of bowel movement. Which is good for me don't get me wrong. But it's a little to much now. I drink 1 gallon a day of polan spring water. I figured if i get my body use to that it will not make me so nausea when i drink the same when fasting.

When I evaluate a water I look for a pH of about 7.4, and if it contains minerals, Calcium to Magnesium 2:1. I will not drink water with a high Sulphur content or any Nitrates (The latter indicates contamination). During alonger fast, distilled wter has some benefits, including a bit of a change of "taste".

But I never pressurise myself into drinking if not thirsty.. right now I am more than 46 hours along a dry fast... will likely break it at 48. Bt please drink as much as you are thirsty for, and don't shy away from good carbonated water (without additives).. it helps to dull your appetite.

There's a lot of publications on the phases of fasting but few of them give their sources.. my experience is that the phases are different for each individual and for each fast. If, for example, you start a fast after eating a steak, your metabolism is "steak-based" and you will likely consume your own "steaks".. muscle. If you ate fat when you enter the fast, you are more likely to use fat sooner. But if you are really passive and just wait for the fast to work, toxins are not eliminated very effectively whereas when you follow the 5 detox steps, it's moving quicker..

This can go on and on, as each individual and each set of circumstances, the climate, the individual, your biorhythms, etc;, all play their roles.

If you just remain susceptible to your body's biofeedback you'll likely know what to do. But most people's feedback is destroyed in early infancy when their "caretakers" make decisions on what, when, where and how much to eat, for example. That's one reason why I do like good clinical supervision of fasting in those less experienced. This often includes blood tests and various regular measurements, which helps you interpret your experiences more appropriately.
