Today, more than at any previous time in history, we, as a society, are experiencing the realisation that the medical paradigm by which we have been living, is just not working. That our much vaunted increase in lifespan and subsequent health improvement has not been brought about by scientific western medicine at all. That in fact the benefits we are experiencing are the direct result of improved Hygiene, the introduction of which was opposed by the established medical fraternity at the time.
We are continually informed that there are, or soon will be, major breakthroughs in the treatment and cure of all the major diseases. Yet the position today is far worse than it was in 1900. Is this why so many people in our society today are looking for alternative ways of looking at life and the treatment of disease.
In the past it has been accepted, almost without question, that the Dr’s word is infallible, and his instructions must be adhered to without question. Today there is occurring a shift in the balance of power where it is becoming accepted that the physician is not responsible for the quality of a patients health, nor for how successfully the patient heals. That this responsibility belongs rightfully to the patient.
The result of this shift in power, the role of the patient is changing rapidly. The acceptance, without question, of the need for any form of drug therapy and/or surgery is no longer viable.
For a large percentage of the population there is a growing need to be in control of their own destiny. To be free to play a vital role in their own health. To achieve this requires a new paradigm to replace the old. A new philosophy and subsequently a new practice. Which poses the question,”Is this possible?”
I personally would answer that question in the affirmative. We do have “a new paradigm” available to us. One which has proven itself over the last two hundred years for the minority that have been courageous enough to embrace it in the face of untold opposition.
To enable ourselves to be involved in such a movement though requires what I would like to term “a quantum leap”, in our thinking, along with the will to regain the power we have given away and take full and total responsibility for all of our actions, and their subsequent consequences, in our lives.
Before proceeding further, I would like to share with you the following quote by Caroline Myss PhD, from her book “The Creation of Health”,pp35, in which she writes,”…..it must be clearly stated that not every patient is ready or able to accept what the holistic field has to offer. Moreover the premise that a patient has created his or her own disease through negative emotional, psychological, or physical patterns can frequently contribute feelings of guilt, fear, and defensiveness to the patients general attitude. It is highly significant therefore, that patients be afforded the choice to proceed with their healing process according to what suits their needs and capabilities as well as what they trust to work most effectively for them.”
It can readily be observed then, that many of us may well not be at the stage where we are ready to make this “quantum leap”, to accept “a new paradigm”. For those of us who are, I can assure you that is well worth the effort. Whether you are 3 or 30, 8 or 80, it will still work. And why am I so sure? Firstly because it is based upon the premise of the self healing power of the body. And secondly, because not only have I personally experienced it, I have also observed it in operation on literally hundreds, even thousands, over the last 40 or so years.
