beginning the pre-fast ritual today!

today I am starting a 4 day pre-fast! i am going to eat only raw vegetables, fruits, & nuts & I am taking a probiotic as well to ensure colon health during the fast. I am hoping to begin the fast on wednesday & last for 7 days ( I have gone 3 days in the past). If I feel good after 7 days, I plan to keep going because food has been such a stress in my life - I've struggled with a sort of disorder in the past & my relationship with food just leaves me feeling guilty every time I eat. I don't care as much about losing weight as I do about changing the emphasis of my life around what I can & can't eat, I also want to reset my taste buds. I know I can do this!

I am so so so disappointed!!!  I was almost 3rd day water fast and i blew it...why?  during the 3rd day (well almost) my emotions were playing with me...i wa so down and my head was telling me or asking me why do i have to do this silly thing called fasting... I tested my ketones, it was trace and i weighed myself i fuond out i GAINED a pound!!!!! which doesnt make sense since i didt eat anything for almost 3 days!!! so i gave in! I wish i didnt...cozim not onky after the weight lose but for a personal retreat...:(

Day twenty-one of fast

Three weeks and I still feel strong. Day nine-teen produced a headache which lasted all day into the next. Maybe it was the paint and various other chemical smells from the kitchen remodel. It was pretty uncomfortable, especially since it wouldn't leave me! No vomiting though, as the headache is sometimes a prelude to the vomiting. Thank God! Looking a little gaunt, so I've been trying to wear multiple layers ,  turtle necks and what not to minimize that as I had my cabinet sales man comment whether I feeling well. My spirits are high, maybe because I'm finally getting my kitchen updated! No rapid heart beat or anything irregular. My weight loss has slowed to about half pound a day which I am grateful as I don't want the weight loss to call attention to the fast. As much as I would love to share all the benefits of this wonderful process I know the understanding won't be there, plus I don't need negativity and apprehension thrust on my fast. I'm a trusting and positive person and I consider such thoughts a sort of poison, the thing I'm trying to rid from my body! Sorry for not posting moor regularly, my service has been sketchy and I've been running around quite a bit.  Wonderful day to all!

Day 1 refeeding after 10 day water fast

So far this is the best I have done as far as refeeding.  Usually, I do well the first time I eat, then I jump into eating everything.  But that sometimes causes me to get constipated and feel very uncomfortable.  And as you know, what doesn't come out shows up on the scale.  I am determined not to let that happen.

I have made my decision and I am at peace with it.  I broke the fast with a very watered down smoothie made from a very ripe banana.  The reason I chose to break the fast is that my trail running group is going on a destination trail run and I don't want to miss that.  The trail run is on Sunday but since I have only run 2 miles in the last 10 days, I want to run at least once before the trail run.  So it pushed me toward the decision of breaking the fast to refuel for my run on Friday.  I am very happy with this experience and I enjoyed sharing it with you all.  I will begin my intermittent fasting with one day fasts on Mondays and either Wednesdays or Thursdays.  Thanks for sharing this journey!

Last night I slept extremely well which surprised me as I had extreme headaches through out the day from my caffeine withdrawal.
I started day one weighing in at 215 and I was at 207 this morning.  I definitely expect the first week to be encouraging as far as weight loss goes but I know the pounds will be a bit more stubborn to burn as I get further in to the fasting.
On another note, I found myself constantly trying to talk myself in to modifying this fast, do one week fast and one week off.  Or, just fasting every two days on and one off.  Basically I was trying to talk myself out of fasting.  I seem to do much better during the day vs. nnight.  I guess it's one day at a time!

Day three IF

Where to start... Right now, I am trying to get into  fast to help speed recovery from elective plastic surgery.  I opted to have lipo on my tummy.  Tomorrow will be three weeks.  I have always been small (5'-3", 110ish lbs) but after having a child, I have been incredibly unhappy with the shape of my tummy and how I look a little bit pregnant all the time.  So, I opted for lipo.

Waterfasting Day 10

I cannot believe I have made it to day 10. This is now my second longest fast to date.  The longest was 16 days.  This time, though I  have felt so much better than the other ones.  I do have some weakness in the extremities, and I get out of breath while going up steps.  I also seem to do things a little slower than usual.  Usually I'm walking so fast that I get annoyed because people are walking in front of me and I can't get past them.  Now, I'm the slower one.  But that is a small price to pay for the work that my body is doing.  First and foremost, getting rid of that pesky belly fat.  I still have some extra fat around my navel and I cannot yet see my abdominal muscles.  I took a picture of my abdomen and you can see it still has a good coating of flab.  I had a get-together with my siblings, all 5 of them.  One of my sisters decided to dry fast that day so we were both fasting and everyone else was like, why are you fasting?  You're too skinny.  I was really appreciative that my sister decided to fast with me, it drew some of the attention off my fasting.  But I was honest with them.  I had brought along a printout of an article on the stages of fasting and what happens to your body physiologically while fasting.  My RN sister wanted to see the documentation that backs up the statements in the article, which I can respect.  I had made food and brought it that smelled so good.  I wasn't tempted, but I did take a sample of it and froze it for when I come off my fast.

So I know I said I wasn't sure how long this fast was going to last. And yes I was hoping for it to be longer but I was having MAJOR detox symptoms this time (maybe the 3 days of juice got them all stirred up) so I ended up ending it.  Truthfully it was all mental.  And I has rashes on my legs.. which are still there.  But this fast inspired me to maybe fast 1 day a week or even 2 days a week.  I will be doing a long fast again.. Not sure when but when it calls me.  ll I'll be blogging again soon and GOODLUCK to all who are still going strong :)

I am on day 2 of hopefully a 30-45 day fast.  I am doing fine but experiencing extreme headaches.  I broke down about thirty minutes ago and made me a double shot express to try and satisfy my caffeine withdrawal.
My hunger pains are fine and I feel pretty confident I can maintain with juice and water, its the headaches that will derail me.

Very excited ...my fast starts in just over three hours. Have been building my mind up for this for about five days. Will take each day as it comes and will report back..hopefully to help others ...and to get help from you guys. Feel encouraged by all you already fasting and thank u for sharing. I think i'm aprox 5.3 and about 165 lbs so a few stone over weight. Will check in tomorrow x

BTW despite my not eating for 2.5 days, i still failed to lose the weight i wanted..i was 121 yesterday and now im 122!!!! so frustrating :(

im almost to my 3rd day of fasting and im excited...im feeling so tired but to my surprise NOT hungry at all!!! My mom made some pancit and usually i would devour it but now..it feels like i took an appetite supressant! :)

Day 9 water fast

I can't believe I've gotten to day 9. I was planning 5 days.  When I wanted to do a week I only made it 4 days.  I guess my body is just ready.  Yesterday at work someone came up to me and said, "Lisa, you're losing weight too rapidly."  I shared with her that I was on day 8 of a water fast.  She was at first skeptical that fasting was healthy and I assured her that it was indeed healthy and that I had done a lot of research.  Afterwards, she was interested in trying a 3 day water fast.  I have decided that this time, I am going to let a few more people know what I am doing instead of fasting completely in secret, especially since I am feeling so well while doing it.  If people never hear of fasting, how will they know that it is a possibility for them to try? I've also gained confidence in explaining the process and in fasting so I feel I have something to share.

day 2 hour 33 water fast

Well im still not sure where this fast is taking me.  At this point I am feeling like I have little to no self control with food.  Then another part of me takes over and I do have if self control because im still fasting.  Not sure when I am going to end it.  Just going to keep listening to that inner voice which is still telling me to fast for today anyway.  I had a headache and rashes all over my legs yesterday.  They were really blotchy lines all over my ankles and calves.  Also my skin is VERY dry.  My facial complection already looks better.  My tongue is covered in a white coating all over.  I still feel hunger pains which is why I am so temped to just go in the kitchen and eat a pear.  But not going to at least not right now.  The first time I fasted I dont remember it being this hard.. I need ketosis to kick in and the hunger to go away.  I dont have a scale but im guessing I weight 114 at 5' 5 ..  ]

Still feeling great on day 8!

Aside from the light headed feeling when getting out of bed in the morning, and getting more tired from things such as walking up steps or activities where my arms are above my heart, like when I'm blow drying a client's hair, I feel great.  Day 8 is when there is more energy and I can tell.  I am feeling positive and now I am looking at long term fasting.  I imagine I have enough reserves to do another maybe 10 days.  I am at 100 lbs at 5 ft 1 1/2 inches.  This is a great weight for me.  My tummy still has a good bit of extra fat and I still cannot see my 6 pack yet.  Other fasts, I have gotten down to 97 and 95 lbs and I stopped early.  I was afraid of the numbers on the scale and didn't want to continue.  Now, I know with my size I can safely go down to 90 lbs, so that's why I figure I've got about 10 days.  I did lose 11.5 lbs in those 8 days.  I wanted to fast to a little lower than my final weight should be to account for the food in your digestive system.

Day seventeen of fast

Hi! The fast is still going strong! Slept eleven hours last night, still can't believe that! I'm drinking according to thirst, about twelve ounces or less a day. My heart rate is back to normal, I might have taxed myself that day. I can honestly say my appetite for food is nil. When my body calls for food I've decided that whole ripe organic fruit will be the best bet. I do have a a baby shower, a sit down restaurant thing on the twelfth of February. If I'm still fasting I don't know to handle the questions as to why I'm not eating. I don't want to say too much if you know what I mean.  I'm so not a good liar! Maybe no one will notice I'm not eating. Yeah right my husband will be right next to me! Forgot to mention no one knows I'm fasting, except for you kind people! Well, if anyone has some suggestions please help. Lovely day to all!

Wow, I am proud of me! I have fended off temptation at every corner, yet here I am, still fasting.  I know I made it through day 7 and that I'm not going to break the fast.  And to think I was planning to quit at day 6.  Other fasts I had used enemas and had not consumed very much water.  This time, I drank at least 8 glasses of water each day.  I did use a glycerin suppository on maybe day 3.  I have had 3 bowel movements on this fast and I feel that internally I am very clean.  I am now a true believer in water for health.  Perhaps the water made the difference.

So I broke my 3 day juice fast last night by eating 3 bananas a pear and 2 avocados.  I didn't want to break the fast but was just really hungry and wanted to grab a bite before the water fast.  This all happened at 2 am so you could call it an unplanned craving lol.  But now I am water fasting.. almost convinced myself to break it earlier and then I have a goal of got on here and read a blog and remember why I am doing this in the first place.  I can do this!! I have will power!! lol .. the meal last night spiked my hunger so now I have been feeling hunger pains all day.  I am going to have a goal of 3 days.  If I get past there 7 days.  Past 7 will be 10.. And past 10 who knows?

This is a first for me.  Usually I'm blogging that I'll fast for this long and fall short, this time I blogged that I would break my fast and did not.  Why?  Reading and posting in the forum and reading blogs just inspired me to keep it up.  Since I've gotten this far and feel so good, I know that if I break the fast, then come back and read your stories of fasting, I would feel regretful.  Also my friend who was fasting with me up until day 4 really encouraged me to stay away from the food at my daughter's party.  I also have this article I printed off some website that goes over what happens in each stage of fasting and it says that day 8-30 is when enhanced clarity  and increased energy occurs.  From my journal of my other fasts, I concur and am looking forward to getting to day 8.  As I was typing my last blog about breaking my fast to run, I realized that we have a trail run every Sunday.  Just as food will be there when I am ready to eat, the trails will be waiting for me.  I have always wanted to fast until completion (true hunger) and perhaps this will be the time.  I am going to take this one day at a time.  Thank you to everyone who has posted on Fasting Connection.  You have helped me in so many ways!

So I have been feeling good.. A little moody from the sugar highs and lows.. not to mention my teeth kinda hurt from all the sugar juice.. I am glad to be switching to only water tomorrow!! No bind to food for a little while!! It  feels great to be fasting again!!!!! yay :)

Day 6 breaking the fast

I am really proud of the progress I have made on my fast.  I am choosing to break the fast after I post this blog mostly because I want to run tomorrow.  I have a group that runs trails on Sundays and I am so jonesing for a run.  I tried to run yesterday while fasting but I just couldn't, and running is my thing.  I am going to go back to my weekly fasting schedule of fasting Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays, so I'll be fasting again soon.  I am so happy with how well this fast has gone.  I'm happy with my results.  I didn't get to the weight I wanted yet, but I know I can do it with my intermittent fasting.  Oh, and did I mention that my daughter is having a Sweet 16 birthday party, going on now? I'm waiting to go to the party until after I pick my son up from work, which means I won't get there till about 6:30.  Hopefully all the tempting food will be gone by then.  I don't want to eat a bunch of crap.  I am breaking my fast by having a smoothie made from very ripe bananas and water only.  Tomorrow I won't eat much before my run, but I will eat a few carbohydrate gels before and during the run because I probably won't have built up my stores for a 2-2 1/2 hour run.  I can't wait to run!  Yes!!! Thank you all for sharing this journey with me.  I will still be around!

Day 3 juice tomorrow water only!

So I woke up today 100 motivated and ready to do just water.  However I had a ton of organic expensive veggies and fruits in the fridge because this fast wasn't really planned.  Something inside me has been telling me to do it so I still had/have a ton of food left over!! I am going to use as much as I can today (juicing wise) and then just leave the rest for my family.  They don't really eat healthy like I do but hopefully they will find good use of the fruits and veggies I have left.  I am starting to feel highly motivated to do this.  Today I woke up with out even an urge for food.  I love not being bound by something  it feels so great to just be led completely by life/spirit energy instead of food energy.  So tomorrow is the real thing.. I have no set goals this time around.  If I do 3 days of water I will be happy but if I do 30 days of water I will also be happy.  As long as I feel the spirit with in me is as long as I will last.  I am also pretty skinny already so if I can maintain this weight throughout the fast then I will last longer.

Starting day 6

Well, I'm on day 6.  I thought I was going to break the fast last night because I was so tempted by the food I was working on for my daughter's party, which is tonight.  I've been reading books by Ferrydoon Batmanghelidj about water and how important it is for the body.  I've been drinking a lot of water as a result and I think it has helped (besides the first day I did dry).  So far I feel great and want to keep on fasting.  I think part of what helped this go so well is that I have weaned myself off caffeine months ago and eat very little refined foods.  Also I ate a huge meal of fruit before the fast (plus some fatty stuff to encourage fat burning).  Another reason is that I have been doing intermittent fasting for three weeks before fasting, and I think that is why my body switched to ketosis so quickly.  Hope it keeps it up!
