      Fasting Guidelines

Fasting is a tool, much like a surgeon's knife. It can heal you or kill you. Fasting is a very safe health practice when following basic guidelines and common sense. Below is a few of the basics for fasting. Fasting should be undertaken with the guidance of an experienced health practitioner to avoid any complications. Fasting is possibly the oldest, safest, and most effective healing method known to man. Fasting shuts down digestion in about 24 hours and the body’s enzymes go to the intestines and blood stream instead of the stomach. They begin to circulate throughout the body digesting waste matter, pathogens, dead and damaged cells and pollutants. This also allows a rest for the organs and glands of digestion, and also a much lower demand upon the other glands and organs.

      PREPERATION:
Prepare for your fast by eating only fresh fruits and vegetables for at one to three days prior to the starting day. Drink an equivalent of 1/2 oz. of purified water for every pound of your body weight.  This must be purified water only, not teas or juices as the body utilizes these as food. Water, taken alone, is used as a solvent by the body to cleanse and rid itself of waste. The water should be drunk by itself, not at meals. However, drinking water about 20-30 minutes before a meal will help stimulate digestion. If you have water at meals, sip it, have it at room temperature, and slosh the water back and forth in your mouth several times before swallowing it. This will allow you to digest it better [as it assists with breaking down the water] through proper digestion.

      FASTING:
Begin your fast upon arising. Drink water or any mono-food fasting substance of choice at least every two hours. If using a mono-food fast, drink water between the two-hour intervals as desired.  Fast until the hunger has disappeared for at least 24 hours. The hunger usually disappears on the second day.   Never fast more than three days if your appetite doesn't disappear in that time. Continue the fast until your hunger returns to your stomach, not your mouth. Prolonged fasts can be achieved by doing one day the first week, two the second, three the third etc. It is always wise to consult with an experienced and qualified health practitioner who has personal fasting experience before starting any fasting regime. Brush your teeth with purified water only.

Always break a fast with whole, fresh made fruit juice for the first meal and whole fruit for the second. Follow with the next meal of steamed veggies and finally whole cooked grains and veggies the following meal. After that you may return to eating anything else you desire in accordance with the principles outlined in the book “Your Own Perfect Diet”*.
