Hi

I am new to this forum and the main reason for me to come here,
is that I have some questions which I can't answer myself.

I am considering doing fasting for both health and weight loss/maintaining reasons and of course for the mental clarity.

My plan is to do 2 fasting days a week.
The questions are:
Should I do the fasting as a sequence for 2 days or should I do them separately with pauses between the days?
If the last one is the good one, then over which interval should I commit myself to fasting?
Which should I prefer, juice or water fasting?

I want to know the disadvantages and advantages for the routines I provided.

If anyone has time to answer me, please do.

Hello miskeo and welcome to our community. Your questions are very valid and very topical. It is impossible to say you should to it this way or do it that way as we are all built differently and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another, hence it is always worth experimenting on oneself. However my personal choice is to adopt the two consecutive days approach as it could yield better results than two non consecutive days. The reason for this is that the body has time to get more work done as it is more likely to enter into a 'real' fast over a duration of 48 hours than only 24 hours. By 'real' fast I imply that the body changes fuel type from consuming remnants of food still in the system (intestines) as well as blood sugar reserves to energy derived from one's fat. This process is called ketosis. Usually the body only enters into a state of ketosis after a period of 3 days (when all other food reserves are depleted) however the advantage of frequent weekly fasts is that the body can enter into ketosis more quickly. The whole GI tract becomes still and the body can divert its energy to the all important task of repair and cleansing. As for fasting on juice, this is strictly speaking not really a fast (hence the term juice feasting commonly adopted by other sites.) and the reason for this is that on a juice feast you are still feeding sugars into the body which acts as a ready supply of food. It is also important while on a water fast not to put anything that will register as taste in the mouth because it sends the message to the system that food is on its way and the body starts to divert blood back into the organs of digestion.

Hope this goes some way to clarifying your thoughts.

Thanks for your input and excellent questions.
