Dear Dr. André

In your book, you recommend 1-4 days of fasting per week depending on the person.

If you think a person will benefit from fast 3-4 days per week, do you mean 3-4 days alternately or 3-4 day consecutively? What do you think of alternate day fasting in general?

Thanks!

The whole idea, dear Esmée, is to have variety.. the spice of life. So some weeks you'll fast every second day, some weeks 4 in a row, some weeks 2 in a row then alternate days, why should life be boring?

Generally I think alternate day fasting (or alternate day eating for that matter) is an excellent habit. It is one in which laboratory animals, for example, found their lifespan increased by up to 50%.

Andre,

So you think two 36-hour dry fasts per week is not enough?

He recommends 1 to 4 days per week depending on the person. I just wanted to know for people who do more, whether he thought it was beter to alternate days or do them consecutively.

Two 36 hour fasts is definitely "enough" dear Milena. If you just need "maintenance" one is enough. Bear in mind that if you have a liver well stocked with glycogen, the "fast" actually only really start about 24 hours after the last meal. Thus a 36 hour period of not eating actually means effectively a 12 hour fast. Two of these every week gives your body plenty of opportunity to eliminate what it needs to.
