      My first 12-day water fast - 24/02/2008 20:01
Hi, everybody there. I am starting my 12-day water fast on 2/25 morning. My longest water fast was 6 days long, done in early Feb. with the support of this website’s group fast. (Many thanks to the great folks who have created this website or are giving useful information here.) I have some fear as to what I may encounter in the next 12 days. I am posting my progress here hoping for receiving support/comments. Also maybe my fasting journey could be of interest to some who are contemplating a fast.

I have no major health complaints and am not over-weight. I have not abused drugs and have no need for medications. But I lack energy in general and I don’t look super healthy. I have read a good amount of fasting literature and I believe in the immense health benefits a longer fast may bring. Hence I am undertaking this present fast. Another major reason for my fast is to discipline my body, bringing it under the control of my rational mind.

I read Dr. Kruger’s prescription for “active fast” (doing elimination cycles) and have been diligently doing the cycles—-minus the exercise part due to my lack of energy—-in hopes of pre-empting detox symptoms.

When I did short water fasts in the past, I did not have major detox symptoms. Mostly I just felt weak when the fast was more than two days. On some of my fast days I had to rest on bed for 15 hours. I read Dr. Shelton’s writing on fasting. Shelton insisted that weariness during a fast is mental, not physical. I honestly don’t think I mentally invited/imagined weariness while fasting. Anyway, I have yet to experience the energy boost that is supposed to arrive with water fasting.

Hi Joy, nice to see you back and fasting again. :) Some people do seem to react to a fast with constant tiredness. I've had both tiredness and lots of energy. Hopefully within your ten days you'll get beyond the tiredness and feel the energy, it can be a very pleasant change. How do you do the hot/cold thing without exercising? I do hot baths followed by a cold shower sometimes but I think the sweating done during exercising is a bit more efficient than just having a hot bath.

Good luck with your 12 day fast, I look forward to reading of your progress. :)

      Andrew.

You're quite right about the combined exercise/sweating Andrew.. I do like doing exercise in a sauna or steam room. Adopting the elimination cycle to your immediate experience is always a good idea, as you should always allow your biofeedback to overrice theoretical advice. Strict adherence to the elimination cycle is NOT essential, but it does give you something to do when you don't know what next..
