      day 4 - 18/04/2008 22:07

hi all im on day 4, well actually 5 now and I wanted to share mys tory in case other are interested. My goal is to go 30-40 days, with possible juice fasting breaks along the way in case i find my metabolism slows too much. I am hoping to loose 20-25lbs and get over some bad habits.
So far i have not been hungry at all, on a scale of 1-10 i'd say my strongest hunger level is a 3. I find this very weird since in previous fasts i have felt hungier in the first few days. I think i have yet to undergo my "crisis" since i havent felt bad, slightly weak yesterday and sore but that is simply because of my daily workouts (i assume) I am walking and hour or two a day and doing pilates/yoga my strengh has not diminished at all. hope all is well with evryone else

Careful with juice "breaks".. remember metabolism consists of 2 components:

ANAbolism while you eat and about 24 hours after your last meal before a fast, and
CATAbolism when you live on your fat stores.

Sure the former is reduced in rate when you fast. That is incidentally also why you age slower.

Fruit "breaks" will speed up anabolism but at the cost of suppressing catabolism.. so although the total metabolism is indeed slightly up, the fat breakdown is down.

I believe we have only a certain "volume of metabolism" available for a lifetime, and the slower we use it up, the slower we age. This is the case throughout the animal kingdom: A hummingbird lives barely 2 seasons, a whale can live arguably up to 2 centuries. Tortoises lives slow and long.

If you want to live quick and short, speed up your metabolism rate.
