Eating by Blood Type - 26/12/2007 13:25
Does anyone know if there is any substance to this theory that we need different types of food according to which Blood Group we belong?

I'm not sure about the substance. The theory is certainly compelling. However I have tried it myself and found it far from perfect. It had me restricting foods that being a vegan I found difficult to replace. I soon found myself feeling like I wasn't getting enough, that my diet was lacking in something important, rather than actually feeling any better.
So in my opinion although it seems a sound enough theory in practice it seemed like I was having to randomly cut out good foods from my diet. A diet which was well balanced and provided all my needs but with the restrictions place on my eating left my body feeling depleted in some way.
I think some diagnosed allergies fall into this category also. I once took my son to an allergy specialist for his asthma I think it was. The specialist diagnosed his allergies from vague symptoms we provided her and when she saw I was skeptical offered to test her diagnosis with kinesiology. She used me to test on but didn't realise I had experience with kinesiology myself and saw that she was very obviously and blatantly changing her method of testing each time she tested for a food or other allergin that she had already diagnosed. This person came highly reccommended and was greatly respected in her field, but to me the word charlatan wouldn't be too strong to apply there.
I certainly would not have restricted my son's diet on her say, it would have been dangerous to do so in any case without having other foods to replace those taken off his menu, something which is rarely considered.
To get back on the subject I would suggest that some foods may be more compatable with some blood types and some less, but that this compatability issue would be primarily if not completely based on cooked foods and a diet high in raw foods would make these problems negligible.
Andrew.

Eating for your blood type certainly works.. but only if you believe it will. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy. There's no real truth in it.. well, almost.
We have more than 45 000 genes. only 2 of these are used to determine the "blood group". They manifest themselves as proteins on the surface of the red blood cells. Now you don't have to be a statistician to appreciate that 2 out of 45 000, randomly selected simply because they are easy to determine, is unlikely to have the last say on the subject. In particular since they are not even on the cells of the digestive tract, but only on the red blood cells.
Sure genes will affect what's the best food for us. But not the blood group genes in the first place. If you were to do a biopsy of the stomach and the gut and determine a few thousand genes on those cells, they are more likely to give you a reliable guideline. But we are far from there in genetic science.
Until such time, "biofeedback" is more likely to be able to individualize your needs. Listen to your body.
