Good luck with your new start in California, and best wishes with your current fast.

hi -- I could not figure out how to edit what I wrote so here is an additional piece of info:
I have just moved back to California and am in day 2 (just passed the 24-hour mark) of what I aim to be a ten-day fast supporting my new life here.
I have posted here before and my issues with fasting are that I am sometimes feel emotionally "not strong enough" to get through times when I "just need comfort" or "just can't stand it" -- whatever "it" may be at the time. Usually the lack of purpose, "boredom," loneliness, "bleakness," for which there seems to be no other "solution" than food.. I have done some work on connecting to my life purpose and want to go further with exploring the exact thinking that makes me break a fast . the fears etc. -- in which others all too often participate. The lack of support is a BIG factor. .. Often I feel that I could succeed in my goal fast of several days' length if only I could just get a jump-start from a supportive influence that just said to me , "just do it!" and rewarded me for doing it somehow, with a sense of entering a new life, making an accomplishment; even being part of a group or joint effort... and which let me feel that the fast would form part of a new routine or way of life or pattern, and not be a wasted effort. -- a drop in a sea of helplessness and failure.
My reasons for fasting are to heal from depression/anxiety and to get in a state where not overeating is easy and not a white-knuckle struggle. and where I am committed to a non-triggering diet (for me, sprouted items - livign food only , and of course raw. and non-starchy and rather bitter-tasting. and with at least a little green leaf. the totally fresh, non-triggering diet, which I natually stop eating when i have had enough, when eating is no longer ok with me)... above all I want a life in which I am free of this lethargy and brain fog and fixation on food and am instead engaged with others and with life and myself. Not addicted as I am now. Only to raw foods, but addiction is addiction. It ruins one's life. It takes one's life away. i need to get healthily detached from food and have it not be such a crutch and emotional anesthetic for myself.
Please reply with encouragement to fast!

  • jackiejjjjac : hey what do you guys do when you are in a fast and your friend or family wants to go out to eat, how do you explain without drawing to much attention to the fast
  • kimberly183 : Hey, Meditating!
  • Thomia : Thanks for the info, Kimberly.
  • kimberly183 : lulcullan: yes, that is normal. blood pressure typically drops as well! if you go to the tab titled "forum", there are places on there to post questions such as these! Welcome aboard!
  • kimberly183 : Thomia: Not only will the blog be restructured, the entire system of fasts is as well. So, to answer your question, no, you didn't miss the February signup. There is not one.
  • Thomia : I know the Blog page is being restructured. Am I overlooking the sign up for the Feb fast? Is it starting Monday?
  • lucullan : I dunno how to post anything :) I have a question...is it ok and normal that the heart rate drops while fasting?
  • kimberly183 : David - are you there? Happy to see you back from Geneva. Can't wait to see those pics! :)
  • Meditating : Happy New Year!
  • David : To you too Northwind. Great way to celebrate Solstice. A thousand times better than just shopping..
  • northwind : Happy Solstice everyone! I celebrated by jumping in an ice-cold river and swimming about, and then went for a nice long sauna. Hope you all had as much fun as I did! :) Oh, and it's a one-day fast for me to boot. Happy fasting to all.
  • kimberly183 : David, I just sent you a PM :)
  • lauray : hi, everyone, I'm just lonely and need to reach out. i am succeeding in my ast-lengthening and diet-cleanup program. I want to keep my success not just for material reasons but because it helps me connect with the world and be a person whom I myself like. Hi to anyone who reads this, and please write to wish me luck in my 42-hour fast, to begin within the next 2 days,
  • kimberly183 : Or the vicodin?? :) Thanks, David. I do try.
  • kimberly183 : YOu know me and 19th Century American Lit! Oh, and don't get me started on The Bard.
  • David : Very subtle and tangential Kim .... Can't seem to get away from Thoreau eh?
  • David : Kim you always somehow manage to keep a positive attitude even when the chips are down. No pun intended.
  • lauray : hi, everyone, i did it -- in spite of feeling it was impossible to continue in my 30 hour fast, i actually lasted through the evening last night. and in just ove 2 hours i will have achieved my goal. next i have to fast 36 hours. it remains so emotionally hard for me to get through even these brief periods fasting. i am jsut trying to reinforce my success with posting and messaging here. it helps me to have a buddy. i think i need to seek out a specific buddy for my 36 hour fast. anyone a
  • kimberly183 : David - how funny! We have several culverts with creeks running through them around here. When our one dog, Allie, runs down to check one out, we say she's checking to see if there are any trolls under the bridge! LOL
  • David : Hey the Big Ugly Troll is always out there when one is Trip Trapping over the bridge. But don't forget that he can be tricked. And honesty and acceptance is a good starting point.
  • kurtsietz : I slipped up tonight. Hung out with some friends who encourage bad habits. Not a good idea but it was my fault for giving in. Don't feel so good after eating junk food and almost threw up. Not giving up on my fast, continuing as scheduled. I went shopping at fresh and easy for foods to properly break my fast. I wish you all luck and thanks for the support. How's the group fast going?
  • David : Hi not bad thanks managed to delay my fast by yet one more day but tomorrow the grass is greener as always.
  • kurtsietz : Hey everyone, hows it goin?
  • kimberly183 : David or anyone on right now - want to try the chat function??
  • David : Thanks Meditating! When I hurt my knee recently I realized that I even have to be grateful for every part of my body which works and has served me so well over the years.
  • kimberly183 : Meditating - Hit the nail on the head, girl! Best wishes to you and yours!
  • Meditating : For all those celebrating Thanksgiving, have a happy holiday and remember that no matter how difficult things might seem to us, our family or friends given the economic situation, we all have good reason to be thankful. :)
  • lauray : k, i thnki i gto a message from you re. operating the site... i don't remember having a question but now i see you offered advice on a "find a fasting buddy" service... well, I could use that but can't find it -- maybe could you describe its location here? sorry if dumb question. Laura
  • lauray : hi, kimberly,
  • David : Yes Kim
  • kimberly183 : David! You there?
  • kimberly183 : (make that near the bottom! LOL)
  • kimberly183 : Laura: Have you checked out the "looking for a fasting buddy" area in the forum? It's about 1/2 way down the second section of the page. Maybe worth a shot! Not everyone reads the blog & shout box . . . :)
  • lauray : hi, again a shout-out to anyone willing to be my fasting buddy? or embark on a program of gradually lengthening fasts with me? involving very light eating post-fasts? love to hear from anyone available or interested.
  • lauray : ... hi, my message was confused by the shout box -- so I am trying to say I want to undertake this fast-lengthening program, with the discipline of truly eating ever so very lightly immediately after fasts and really getting well this way.. and getting off triggering foods permanently, as a life choice, as much as possible... Anyone want to join in this long-term project? Write me! Here on this forum e-mail or at lcathf@gmail.com. Love and hugs, Laura
  • lauray : By the way, my fast could be a 5-day fast or it could be shorter and be part of a program of gradually-lengthening fasts... starting with 24 hours and working up (via 30 hours, 36 hours, 42 hours, 48 hours' fasts, etc.) to about 10 days over some period of time. Would anyone like to join me in this? It would be a case of learning simultaneously to fast for longer periods and also to really surrender to the healing effects of each fast, eating ever so very lightly immediately after fasts light
  • lauray : Hi, everyone! I would like to take a fast shortly and am trying to start one tonight! Is anyone available as a fasting buddy?
  • kimberly183 : lauray - so glad to help! PM anytime if you need anything! :)
  • lauray : oops; i keep hitting "enter. anyway, kimberly, this is the response I have been longing to receive. thanks for validating my trusting the forum with what was so important to me to write. This puts me on the path to fasting as I envision doing. Love, Lauray
  • lauray : thanks again for your wonderful, kind, accepting, helpful comment.
