Just remember time will pass whether you fast or not, you might as well get some use out of it. The food isn't going any where.

May the Energy you free from digesting serves your Body and Spirit well!

HI, I FAILED MISERABLY. AGAIN!

I NEED TO START (I ALREADY HAVE, IT'S NOW TWO HOURS) I AM TELLING MYSELF THIS HAS TO BE IT. OK TAKE IT 24 BY 24 HOURS FOR NOW. SO I SHOULD REPORT BACK POSITIVE RESLUTS TOMORROW SAME TIME.

I WISH I COULD DO THIS ONE. JUST 24 HOURS, THIS COULD GIVE ME A JUMPSTART TO GET GOING. ONCE I AM THROUGH WITH DAY 2 THE REST WILL BE OK AND EASY TO ADJUST.

HELP ME PLEASE! 22 HOURS TO GO.

It appears you think of food too much.. one way I think of food is the following:

You will eat only a certain volume of food in your life. That is your "lifetime allowance".

Thus your age is only partly determined by the number of days you have lived. The other big determinator of your biological age is how much of your "allowance" you have eaten.

Think of a big room full of food. That is what you will get to eat in your life. Everything you put into your mouth comes out of the room. When this room is empty, you die.

Dying is not the big concern though. It is youth.. the more of your "allowance" you have eaten, the older you are (physially, mentally, etc.). Thus whatever you do NOT eat today, you can have later in your life.. ADDED on at the "end".

But there is also some evidence that fasting ADDS to your "allowance": Thus if you have not taken anything out of your room for 24 hours, a small valve opens that put more food into the room. But the moment you eat, that valve is turned off and you once again consume your "lifetime allowance". Once you are past 24 hours again, the room is being filled up again.

Also WHAT you eat: It takes about a ton of plankton to make a kilogram of steak: Plankton eaten by krill eaten by shrimp eaten by little fish eaten by big fish eaten by chickens (fish meal) the droppings of which is eaten by cattle, and each time they have to eat 5 to 10 times the weight they put on.. thus you can take from your "room" many times more green food than animal muscles (meat).

Remember whatever you eat becomes part of your body. Next time you consider biting into something, first LOOK at it, SMELL it and ask yourself: "Is this what I want to become?"

hmmm... not quite a way to phrase it because when I eat vegetables I certainly don't want to become a "vegetable".

But doc, your analogy on "lifetime allowance" is right on. I like it. I also think that we also have many other "allowances", including enzymes and insulin.

The fittest, most beautiful muscles in Nature is build from plants.. look closely at a photograph of a lion vs for example one of a buffalo..

What you need to bear in mind, dear reddal, is that vegetable protein for example is SO different from our own, that we only use their amino acids to build human proteins from. If you eat a dead animal the proteins are so close there's a risk of them being incorporated somewhat unchanged..

And all those additives, colourants, flavourants, chemicals.. do we want them incorporated into our bodies?

Way to go. That's the best way to go about it, one day at a time. And even when you feel like you have to break the fast, wait an hour or two to see if your feelings change. I have found that you might feel totally awful and then you will feel fine an hour later. Also, eating doesn't suddenly make you feel better instantaneously. It takes a while to refill your carb stores. So when you think, I'll feel better if I eat, it's not true. Good luck I'll be fasting right along with you.

Hi all. Am stronger than I expected!!! Is that ok? DAY 4 is here and am now taking soda water with splash of lemon and green tea for energy.

Yesterday I took a cup of coffee. But today am determined not to touch it at all, am weaning off it really otherwise I feel am doing something wrong here. I expected to feel real weak today and some nausea but nothing. Wonder if it was the coffee?

Anyway as I plod along I really look forward to extending this from 5 days to 7 days and see if I can extend further to 10.

Hope you are all well. Oh and a plus for me since temptations have been rife but I ain't budging. :P

I'm happy your fast is going so well now. Thank you for your idea about taking it one day at a time. It doesn't seem so overwhelming when I think in terms of hours, instead of days. Good luck with the rest of your fast.

You are doing very well! However, I would strongly advise you against drinking coffee, tea or soda water if you want to experience true fast. The moment you introduce nutrients into your body, it no longer thinks that it's fasting and begins digestive process. You can have some low sodium mineral water up to .5 liter per day.

Stay strong it only gets easier from this point forward!

THIS TIME NO COFFEE. AM OFF IT AND NO LONGER AN ADDICT. YEY!

Dear Mmukibi,

Congratulations on your fast and on your willingness to go dry! No there is no group for dry fasting yet, but that certainly gave me an idea. I will speak with David regarding forming one. This way we can all stay in touch in one place. In a mean time please do not hesitate to contact me anytime you have a question or concern.

I have found that coffee during a fast makes it easier to break the fast, although it does give some energy. I'm sure it's probably not recommended. It's better to avoid it. I'll be fasting with you, at least 36 hours dry and 7 days water after.

Yea, I am a coffee drinker myself but definitely not during the fast...:) and not right after. With long fasts I wait one to two weeks before I have a cup. It is too harsh on the stomach, even a decaf. Great job on fasting dry!
