Will water fasting help to speed the healing of these nasty little buggers. I've got not only one coming on under my nose but another one tingling on my lip.

so sad. :(

Indeed dear Alisha, I have seen all kinds of sores, including cold sores, heal quicker during a fast. Actually, since I started fasting weekly more than 30 years ago, I have had not a single one again.

The family of viruses causing cold sores and shingles, has a way of living in your body permanently, shielded from your immune system by hiding in a nerve ganglion. Whenever it sees and opportunity, it tires to spread to the next victim by following the nerves to the skin. If you are more immune, it is prevented from doing so. During a fast none of your immune system has to work in the intestine (digestive system), thus there's more available to keep the viruses from doing their trick.

That is music to my ears....I kinda figured it should. B)

I'm actually pulling a double or "00" day till Saturday. So, I'll get about 60 hrs fasted in and now I have another little reason to stick to it. ;)

Thanks Doc

I don't know how L-Lysine interacts with the virus, but whenever I have felt the tingle of a cold sore coming, I carry a gram of L-Lysine with me and take it as fast as I can. I then take the L-Lysine twice a day for several days. I would suspect that fasting would only amplify the effect. The L-Lysine stops the cold sore in it's tracks. If I take it in time, it never progresses beyond the tingle stage. Come to think of it though, I have never had one when fasting....

Thanks for the input Lux. Bear in mind that L-Lysine is only one of about 300 different nutrients that your body needs to be healthy. If it makes a meaningful difference that may be due to your immune system getting a boost from your expectation to be cured. If drugs like these are not tested in a double blind fashion, with the placebo having the same side effects, then we cannot give credit to the chemical. One might get better in spite of what you have taken...

Sometimes chemicals like L-Lysine creates it own need in your body, just like heroin or any other drug: Give your body a lot of anything and it will turbocharge the elimination process and suppress the production of that something.

Thus I prefer to simply stop putting any chemical into my body when ill. even if the marketing gurus of that chemical use words like "natural" to sell their product. Poison ivy for example, is also totally natural, as is scorpion venom...
