Hello

I am currently on day 2 of my juice fast. Yesterday I had cantaloupe juice and today I stuck with water and lemon. Thinking about a grapefruit cherry juice for dinner. My starting weight was 155 today I am 152. Hoping to get down to 125-130 range. Where I was in high school before my last 2 years of college. I guess the typical leave home ditch healthy lifestyle and forget exercise no time lol! College is timely and frustrating but worth it I do enjoy it for the most part. PS I'm going through for a SSW or social service worker. So by determination of myself I have decided I am also an emotional eater a bit. It's a comfort to me when I'm upset or emotional. So yah hoping this posting will help keep on track and keep me away from the Doritos! lol I also am working on keep the healthy lifestyle on after the fast as well. Wish me luck!

Welcome indeed dear Loba!

Do note that many of us fasting practitioners do not use the term "fast" when you take in anything with taste: Fruit juice is after all just fruit, that has been chewed by a machine instead of your teeth. And you can likely live on fruit indefinitely.. so I for one refer to a "juice diet". Which is of course also a VERY healthy thing to do!

You don't really need to "stay away" from Doritos if you like them, but it will be good if it becomes YOUR choice rather than the manufacturer's.. If you read up a bit about the "cyclical diet" I practice and preach, you'll note that a bit of junk upon entering a fast (a real fast, that is), will actually stimulate your system's elimination of the same junk.. thus routing also similar substances that you have had up to years ago.. this forms the basis of real detoxification.

I am impressed with your response so far and wish you luck with persisting!

André

Thanks all for posting and for the information I received. I was wondering should I put a time on my juice diet or should I just go until I am comfortable. I am looking to reach my weight goal by fasting and then going into a healthier lifestyle then I was doing before. I will have to read more on the cyclical diet. Oh I am down 2 more pounds and will make this a water with lemon day and grapefruit juice tonight. Also what about exercise I work all day but I like to walk is to much exercise bad on a juice diet?

TOO MUCH of anything is by definition bad dear Loba. Listening to your body is indeed the best way to go. Your body will tell you if you're hurting it by walking.. but this is highly unlikely as the rate of exercise during walking can typically be sustained indefinitely.. also in fasting people!

If you do decide to fast regularly (or go on a fruit diet regularly) you don't have to reach your goal weight the first time.. it's sometimes better to do it in several steps.

I am one who likes the cyclical water fasting for 50 hours at a time or a little more better than the longer fast, especially with exercise... My trend is weight loss with lots of exercise and muscle gain. I would actually use your juice fast as a platform for the water fast if your adventurous... however, as the Fast Doctor mentioned, a fatty meal may be helpful in converting your body over from carbohydrate metabolism to fat metabolism (ketosis). This takes on average about 3 days and can be a bit hard for some, but since you're already juice fasting, you're most of the way there in the sense that you have conquered the obstacle of "perceived deprivation". That is what does most people in. If youre juice fasting, you've already cut out a lot of things... and the conversion to ketosis should be less of an issue I would think.

Anyway, the fatty last meal does not have to be mostly fat, but at least partly fat. Like something with sour cream, eggs, avacado, just to trigger fat metabolism... and not a big fatty last meal, just a meal that has some fat, juice with an avacado for example may be sufficient.

I love the cyclical fast... if you were to do it and get into ketosis after the first time, the enzymes that break down fat theoretically stay active for a week so as long as you do another 50 hour within 7 days, you'll keep the weight loss trend in its decline.

Good luck!

One other thing, I'm not so hip on Doritos... I do think processed foods are evil... but I eat them... but I would just suggest getting something comprable from say Whole FOods, where the corn is not genetically modified and there is no monosodium glutamate, artificial this and thats in the indgredient list. Usually switching to an organic junk food is sufficient to get away from the majority of uberevil junk in junk food. MSG is no joke to fool around with, stimilates appetite, excites neurons to the point that some argue it might induce neuronal degeneration (breakdown of brain tissue message transmission - not good). Same thing holds true for artificial sweeteners... by the way (not that you even mentioned those.

Again thank you for all the support I have looked into the "Keto" diet as some other sources call it, and I figured out that at 152 pounds I have 32% approx body fat. According to the calculations I need 103 grams if protein or 413 calories, 191-224 grams of fat so 1715-2019 calories, so 26 grams of protein per meal and 48 grams of fat. That's a lot of calories to lose weight, how much exercise would be required for the diet to work? Frankly the diet confused me a lot, I am having trouble making sense of it. HELP? lol Thank you!

Ok let's see if I have some of it figured out. carolineq you mentioned you water fast every 7 days for 50 hours and that put you into a fat burning mode as long as you eat fat through the week? You lose weight this way? If you don't mind me asking how much? 2 pounds a day is pretty amazing but extremely depriving and hard to do mentally. How exactly do you do your program? What do you eat on your non-fasting days and how do you figure out calories and fat...etc? Thank you SOOOO much! Loba

I recommend breaking a fast on pure carbohydrates (fruit or fruit juice). Only once all your energy needs have been met (no more ketosis) add a bit of protein. Then, just before the fast, switch your main energy supply to fat in anticipation.

Of course practically all food contain carbohydrate (meat up to 40%), protein (potato up to 10%) and fat (Egg up to 60 mg%).. so there is no such thing as "a carbohydrate", "a protein" or "a fat" in natural food. It's always good to study a bit of basic science before interpreting these things..
