Thanks, Elizabeth C! How has your fast been so far?

After 3.5 days dry fasting, I decided to have water last night. While I could have gone longer, I knew that I would be outside in the heat all day today, and heat exhaustion is a real possibility. I also have not been sleeping much, perhaps because I am very busy right now. Hopefully getting exercise today will help.

Alas, I will water fast for the next 3 days or so. I hope to get another week or so of dry fasting under my belt, so I will dry fast again and see how long I can go for. As I expected, it was much easier to do than water fasting, and within an hour of drinking water was the first time I felt hungry so far.

So, I think a cascading dry fast might be the answer (e.g. 4 days dry, 4 wet, 5 days dry, 5 wet, etc).

Onto tomorrow :-)

Hello Acmar,

Good to hear from you. Dry and water fasting. Interesting that you find less hunger without water. You would think the opposite. I may try that during the day tomorrow and then have water in the evening.

You asked about my fast? I feel weak. I want energy because the weather is gorgeous and I want to be in the garden. Its my favorite thing to do around the house. I'm thankful to be able to stick with the fast. The desire to fast is always there but the commitment is not...I'm hanging on to this one as long as I can because I like feeling light and how good my skin looks.

Thanks for checking in..stay well.

My my, it has been awhile since I posted here!

If anyone is still following this thread at all, I am well and on Day 2 of another extended fast. I chose to take a break in July from fasting, to recover and prepare myself for beginning one now.

So far, I have felt pretty well and once again have begun with dry fasting to bring myself into ketosis more quickly, and stave off hunger pangs.

I am hoping that once again, fasting will provide me some distance and peace of mind from some negative eating habits and a bit more sugar and chemicals than I need in my diet!

All is well, and on to Day 3. :-) I will post daily here again, as per usual.

Day 3 has gone by fast, due to a VERY busy school and work schedule. I have had pretty good energy all day, very few hunger pangs, and no headaches or dizziness.

I am also happy to report slight tingling in my lower back. This happens whenever I fast, and signals to me that some cleansing and healing has begun!

Beginning tomorrow, I will test my urine for my levels of ketosis, which I have never done before. My curiosity is how the levels may change depending on whether I wet or dry fast.

Onto Day 4. :-)

I have completed Week 1, and am currently at the end of Day 8. I have already seens substantial changes in my face, legs, and stomach, in terms of (water) weight loss.

My energy is still pretty high, which is encouraging because I am very busy with school and work. I have hydrated off an on, as the heat makes it nearly impossible to dry fast. I had one lightheadedness episode, which I think was the result of standing in the heat waiting on my school shuttle, and then having to stand on the shuttle. I consistently find that standing is tiring once week 1 is well underway.

I have also had a slight bout of reflux, where gastric acid may be rising a bit into my throar. I am not worried, as it has not resulted in nausea. So, I have hydrated for that issue as well. I also sleep slightly upright, as I tend to only feel this at night.

Onto Day 9. :-)

Hello Acmar. Great going on your recent fast. Good to hear from you. I'm not fasting right now. I do fast until lunch. With my schedule that's about all I feel I can handle at this point. I may start with smaller fasts again. Take good care...9 days is a great success.

Wow, Acmaragh. I have just read your entire journal, and i have to say, yours is the kind that inspires a person to action. Over a one year period you have gone through quite a number of prolonged water fasts. First 40, then 33, then i think 21 and some short ones in between and now you are starting on another long one. I thinks its amazing and you have strong willpower.

Im also planning to start on 6 day water fasts a week for a couple of weeks. The longest i have fasted in the past is six days, so that's what im working with because i know i have the willpower to get to six days. So i will be eating one of the days of the week. Your journal has really inspired me a lot, and made me see that i can incorporate fast into my daily life. I think i may try 40 days next year.

Otherwise, congratulations on your success and for being such an inspiration. If i may ask, in overall since your first fast in August 2013, how much weight have you lost? I ask because im fasting to lose weight and is curious to know about yours.

Thank you, Elizabeth C! With fasting, I do what I can handle and that's about it. There is no race; it is a marathon. :-)

Rael, thank you for your kind words! In regards to your question, unfortunately I can't answer it because I don't weigh myself! Haha, as you see in my posts, I go my measurements only. As someone who struggles with weight, I never wanted that to be my focus. If it's helpful, though, I can tell you my success from last year in inches lost:

Chest: -3
Waist: -4
Hips: -4
Arms: -2, (-4 total)
Thighs: -2.5 (-5 total)
Total: 20 inches lost

I have regained some of those lost inches unfortunately, but not because of fasting. I have had a couple of health issues in that time, and my body's reaction to just about everything is to gain weight! Haha. So, my intention this time around is 3 28-day fasts, with at least a couple weeks between each one, then a liquid fast for a few weeks after that. Fasting is an inexact science, and I improve each time I do it. That's why I never give up. :-)
