Hi everyone. I just returned from an amazing trip to France where I totally indulged in all the food and drink I wanted to. Now, however, it is time to get my eating under control and lose the weight I allowed myself to gain, not just in France but over the last year since my separation and divorce.

My weight loss story had always been about the 20 lbs I lost and kept off for 14 years. Now, however, I have been on this constant struggle and have not seen my 112 lbs since before my boob job in October 2012. I am dissappointed in myself that I had started eating in an unhealthy way and even quit running and biking. So I have gotten back into running, though not as fast, nor as many miles as before. The trip to France was a bike tour of the west coast of France but the food was so amazing and I decided to be completely open minded and try all the new foods, especially seafoods that I could. Everything was home made and the bread was out of this world. Thank God I was biking between meals.

The last evening in France I began my fast at 9:30 pm Paris time which is six hours difference from my local time so effectively, my fasting day ends at 3:30 pm. This afternoon, in 4 hours or so, I will begin my 4th day. The first day I kept to water fasting but the caffeine withdraway from all the cafe au lait I had in France was too intense. I decided to add coffee and heavy cream to my fast. I am in moderate ketosis as of this morning. Today I also ran my daily 2 miles and biked the same amount which removed another pound from before the exercise.

My weight at the beginning of the fast was 129 lbs and I have to confess I was afraid to step on the scale. Actually I had already fasted nearly a whole day before arriving at home where my scale was. Today after my run and bik ride, I weighed 124.5. It is crazy but I already feel less bloated and "fat" just in these three days. The bread was kind of a mistake because It gave me such a belly ache and horrible gas. I don't usually eat bread but this was France, after all and I have mo regrets.

My goal is to water fast for ten days, allowing myself to have coffee with heavy cream (no carbs) as long as I maintain my daily runs. After the "water" fast, I plan to continue for ten days on juice. I may continue to water fast past the initial 10 days but I will get to 112 lbs and I will maintain that before returning to eating. This I have promised myself. I don't believe that just because I am 45 yrs old that I can't keep my weight in check. I know my body feels its best at 112 and I know I am capable of keeping it there.

Greetings fellow fasters!!
I am well into my 4th day of fasting. I confess to looking up zero carb alcohol and having a glass and a half of cognac which knocked me on my a$$ on an empty stomach. But I am still in ketosis. Other than that and my morning coffee and heavy cream, i haven't had anything else to eat and actually very little water. I'm thirsty now because of the alcohol I had last night but I will remedy that very soon with some water.

I do not plan to have more alcohol. I just wanted to hang out with my boyfriend and bond over the honesty of inebriation. I have ten hours left to day 4 and I am off work and I can just relax and be alone all day. I plan to read, cuddle with my kitty, play a little piano, maybe organize my house a bit. Sounds like a wonderful day, don't you agree? I sent my daughter home with all the food I had in the house so the temptation should be nill.

I can't believe how fast this 10 day fast is going. I feel so positive and motivated. I have lost another two pounds bringing me down to 122.5. Just 10.5 lbs to go and then maintain it for the rest of my life. I wish I could insert these two photos I took showing the difference 4.5 pounds makes on a five foot one and a half inch girl. But my only access to the internet is my iPhone and it doesn't allow you to change the size of your photos to upload them. Perhaps if I get to a Starbucks I can play around on my laptop. But for now you'll have to take my word that I was a lot more bloated and "fat" looking at 129 lbs than at 122.5 lbs. I also love the flatter tummy effect of an empty digestive system has as well.

One thing about the alcohol, I would have eaten raw oysters if they had them last night. Drinking lowers your inhibitions as I was taught in 9th grade. And it would have been easy to break my fast because of that. Luckily for me, they only had fried oysters and I came to my senses. Oysters are one of the things I vowed to try in France and I'm glad I did. It's like eating the ocean. As long as you don't look too closely at them before you eat them.

Today I felt a little crappy. I have a headache which is probably a result of the alcohol, which I admit is not something you should do while fasting. I also feel very weak and enervated. Like someone zapped my strength. Luckily I had a relaxing day of getting my nails and toes done at the salon where I work and regaling the girls with stories of my trip to France. I also did several hours worth of walking at one of those outdoor shopping malls. I did not run. I got in my running garb and hit the start button on my garmin and couldn't make it past my driveway. I just run so much better on carbs than on fat as fuel.

I actually like that my fasting day begins and ends in the middle of the afternoon. It makes the fast appear to go faster than you expect. Plus the evening hours where the temptation to eat hits you don't want to because you have already started the new day.

I spent a lot of time today reaearching how to buy store and cook seafood. I really enjoyed all the different types of seafood I tried in France but I have only twice attempted to cook fish and it was a disaster. For most of my adult life I refused to eat fish and I have been vegetarian for 14 years or so. So it's all new to me. But I really should be careful because past fasts I did a lot of recipe and food research and even trying new recipes and sometimes I overate during refeeding and even broke the fast early because of wanting to try new recipes.

I have one more day off work and then I'll have to return after 11 days off. Day 7 will start two hours into my work day. I'll ptobably be very busy catching up from my time off. The final days of my fast will be working days. Sometimes that can be challenging. I'm counting on the motivation boost that comes from being close to your goal.

I made it to six days and I did two on juice. I am disappointed that I didn't get farther but I felt really really good about my body while fasting. I have started over using the new month as Motivation.
