Day 1 has been good.. Felt extra tired, drained and dehydrated, but I'm pretty sure that's from all of the excessive quantities of wine that I should not have had last night... Definitely not the way to prep for a fast but what can you do? Lol. Also. The time change is really messing with me.. I feel like it's much much later than it actually is.. I'm going to bed now.. Other than that all is well.. Check in with you all tomorrow!

HI Courtney, well done for day 1. Are you planning a 75 day intermittent water fast?

Hi David! Thank you. For your support. No this will be a 75 water fast, not intermittent.

Start of Day 2 of 73: Feeling pretty amazing at the moment. Last night I had a lot of stomach growling and hunger pangs, accompanied by a very slight headache brought on by cranial pressure. All of that has diminished. Probably due to the fact that I'm in Ketosis already. I naturally am always on the baseline of being in Ketosis because I don't eat much carbs and have always maintained an intermittent fasting schedule since I was in my teens, so one day of water fasting is generally enough to push me over the line. I confirmed with Ketosis strip test. Last night I had those horrible eating dreams. Does anyone else experience these when beginning a fast? Dreams where you know that you are currently fasting and you end up eating something over and over again? It's been a while since I have fasted so I completely forgot about the dreams, and it scared the hell out of me. Then I woke up and realized it was a dream and I was so relieved. FYI, I also had a dream I matched 5 out of the 6 lottery numbers and won a bunch of money, therefore I will be buying a lottery ticket on my way home lol. Good luck to everyone. I'll check in at the end of the day.

Oh also forgot to add, lots of urination last night too.. I mean urinating every 20-30minutes for 5 hours straight. I also had what I'm pretty certain was my last bowel movement as well, everything is good in that department.

End of Day 2 of 73: All I have to say is that I was FREEZING cold all day. I don't know whether to attribute this to the fast or weather...probably both I'm the type of person that wears flip flops in the winter and is perfectly fine..today my feet and fingers were cold all day.

Other than that, today was great. I went into work and apparently my coworkers decided to do a 21 Day Daniel Fast today...we had been talking about doing one together but they were all dragging their feet which lead me to go solo yesterday. They will be water fasting to 5pm every day. At least I don't have to worry about them trying to make me eat for the next 3 weeks :)

I feel great mentally. I got a lot of school work done while at work and was on a roll all day. Physically, besides the coldness, I felt relatively tired. I think this may have to do with the time change more than the fast...I purposely stayed up late last night to try and push my circadian rhythm back an hour to catch up with the time change and that ended up making me more tired that I should have been. Oh well. I did not have any food cravings which is great. The days are flying by! Only 71 more to go :) How's everyone else doing?

Courtney, do you plan on being monitored during a 75 day fast? The doctor doesn't recommend planning length of fasts in advance. He also doesn't recommend fasts of this length without being monitored. I believe vitals signs, organ function and blood tests for mineral loss are very important to monitor when a person is drinking only water. Not doing this could result in very serious consequences. Take care!

Start of Day 3 of 73: I feel fabulous. Woke up a little early than usual, but I'm attributing that to the time change. But, my energy level in the mornings is back to normally. I'm definitely a morning person, I usually wake up and dance/sing around the house while getting ready for the day; yesterday I was too tired to do so but this morning was right on the money. I wearing tennis shoes today to work instead of my normal flip flops to hopefully combat the freezing cold feel I had all day yesterday. How's everyone else's morning going? :-)

Elizabeth C: I will be monitoring myself. I'm a medical student. I've done extended fasts before, the longest being 58 days, so this fast will just be two weeks more than that. Of course if I determine along the way thatI need to stop, I will do so.

CourtneyW,

I am not an experienced water-faster, but 75 days of water-fasting seems like an extremely long time to fast. The longest water-fast I have ever went on was a week, and before starting the fast I only weighed about 160 lbs. and stood at about 6'4". My BMI was very low before starting the fast, and at the end of the fast I weighed about 132 lbs. I have a very fast metabolism, which is why water-fasting made me lose an unusually large quantity of body mass during that week.

Do you have a slow metabolism?

Hi Link!

Yes 75 Days is an extremely long time to fast. That's my goal but it's not set in stone. My BMI is high, around 50 I think. However it's not truly accurate because of my height. I'm 5'7" and weigh 310. My body fat percentage is 32%, which tells me that almost 100lbs of the 310lbs is pure fat. The rest is lean body mass/muscle. So that indicates to me that a "slim/slender" weight for me would be around 225lbs. My metabolism is regular I suppose. I lose fat easily, I gain fat easily, and I also gain muscle relatively easy as well. It just depends on what I'm focused on, or not focused on, at the moment.
