There are so many issues associated with health, it is almost impossible to know where to begin. But we should start somewhere so here goes:   Dorland’s Medical Dictionary: “Health is a state of Optimal Physical, Mental and Social well-being and Not merely the Absence of disease and infirmity.”   It is thus a fallacy to say “I am healthy” when in essence you are just “not ill”. That would be similar to saying you are wealthy if you are not poor or bankrupt.   A great new year’s resolution would be to try and improve a little bit on our health status every day.   But: There are SO many facets involved that it is impossible to achieve really optimal health. Yet that need not be a distraction: Like a beacon guiding a ship through treacherous waters, a goal that cannot be achieved serves to perpetually maintain direction. Remember, our...

Hi everyone, After a few years of passive existence in the forum, i'm back in full force.  I kept my IF routine but didn't really keep up with the forum, much to my regret considering the great people around here. Just to get back into basics i like doing IF for two main reasons:  1- Health, it is unbelievable how good it feels after a 3-5 day intermittent fasting detox 2- Weight management On the first couple of days i like drinking green tea to help the detox phase before going entirely on water. For years this has done wonders for me, and even though my work environment is not really helping, during this long weekend i hope to get back on track First day done, at least 2 to go..  I would love to read some advice from people having to deal with fasts in the work place and what...

Taking it day by day... days are easy... but by night my mind is having a war... not so much days 1-13 (okay maybe a little) but last night I was literally looking at my phone app that is calculating my fast (I highly recommend BTW getting a count down and up app for a fast it has helped me more then anything so far) and everything I would want to eat I would tell myself... just wait till the morning see if your hungry then... then my mind would go just have an orange and fruit and maybe chocolate... and then my mind would go just wait till morning.... this went on mentally from about 6 pm till 3 am when I fell asleep... I woke up refreshed and again a bit at war with my mind but not as much as last night...   I know healing starts or...

At night sometimes I dont feel peaceful and want to eat but the urge now to fast is more then to eat..   symptoms - my skin is clear .. I want to note it takes about 12 days for my skin to look like 'fasting skin' I shall call it... it gets a different glow to it..   No idea how long im going yet.. I am listening to my body cycles and trying to connect with God/spirit to get a message as when to go and when to stop.. right now...

Hello everyone!  I made it through my 24 hour water only fast.  I think part of the reason I was successful was because I really kept reminding myself that I would start at 7am (yesterday morning) and go until this morning at the same time.  I try to make a note of what makes something work and use that the next time.  I did a lot of exercise yesterday.  I walked on the treadmill for two hours and then went on a bike ride that ended up taking over three hours.  I was so exhausted from biking and had that blah feeling you get when all your carbohydrate stores are used up.  I went to bed early but ended up having quite a bout of insomnia and kept thinking about how long it still was till 7am and ending my fast.   Did I consider continuing my fast since I made...

Hi I managed to get through yesterday without eating food!!!!! Yay!!! (cheering crowd).  I did have two cups of coffee and one cup of tea. I also did 107 min walking on the treadmill.  Today I am eating a whole foods plant based diet and will fast again tomorrow at 7 am.  I feel more confident because I was able to make it through the day without giving in and eating.  I needed that even though it wasn't a pure water fast.  Sometimes I need to boost my confidence to fast with sort of mini fasts.  I'm deciding whether to do a longer (4 day ha ha not too much longer) fast at the end of the month. The reason is because I've been fasting on the even days of the calendar and there are two odd days in the row at the end of the month, March 31 and April...

Hi everyone, I am writing to reaffirm my goal to fast every other day and to concentrate on healthy whole foods on the eating days.  My last couple fasting days have been incomplete fasts as I ended up eating at some point both days, but not a lot.  Today I am fasting but I have had two cups of coffee and one cup of tea.  My goal is not to have anything else.  I've been trying to give myself a tedious task that keeps me occupied during the fasting days and preventing me from breaking.  I realize that I need to drink more water and I know that helps but sometimes I just have no interest in water.  My fasting days will fall on the even days of the month and will consist of having coffee and/or breakfast before 7am and then to fast on water only until 7 am the...

Hi everyone.  I thought I'd post here because I've finally been able to achieve alternate day fasting.  I have been doing a form of this since Feb 18 although I was taking in calories (coffee) on the fasting days.  I seem to have the experience that something will work for me for about 2 1/2 weeks and my discipline will start to wane and I won't follow the procedure as well, etc.  So about day 16-18 of this "fasting" I wasn't able to make it through the fasting day without eating. So I sat down and wrote three new guidelines:   Fasting Days (even days of the month) Coffee and/or breakfast before 7am. Nothing by mouth except water until 7 am the next morning   Eating Days (odd days of the month) Wait until 7am to begin eating or drinking.  Coffee can wait, too! Eat sensibly!  Drink plenty of water, including...

Day 1 24 feb 14Just completed the first 24 hours of fasting feeling good, no craving or desire to eat.  I went to the gym and worked out this afternoon,1 mile walk, 1 mile jog, and 20 min of interval training on the upright bike. My last fast was a little over a week ago. I have been maintaining a 4 hour eating window. my weight this morning was 180.6 lbs 20 lbs more than I"d like. I am committed to doing a 5 day fast, I would like to do 10 however I have a commitment this weekend. The grumbling in my tummy is somewhat comforting, I know its empty and healing is occurring!!!Headache this evening, and I was very grumpy, could be the load of homework I was working on, or the fact that I didnt get into the sauna after my workout. I dont think I...

weight - 128 symptoms - white tongue energy - high mood - great   I have no idea why I am up and down but today is like a new day!  The sky is sunny and I am so joyful today!! Cleaned my house, going to get an hour massage on my feet for 20$$ and just am overall happy and thankful.. Woke up like this IDK why.. I feel my toxic energy stored in my cellular system is finally starting to clear.. and I do have a theory on this..   everything we eat gets put in our body and is either used or stored. everything we eat also carries energy and frequencies good and bad.. so before this fast I was eating crap like cookies and such ice cream with low frequency (although I was high while eating them, high from the food at least) so I feel today...

This week didn't go as well for me.  My first fast day was last Monday and I ate 637 calories, instead of eating only 500 like I was supposed to.  Then the second fast day, Wednesday I ended up eating 1327 calories.  I started the week at 129.5 and ended it at 131.5.  Here is why: I got lazy with my food journal.  Instead of measuring everything and adding up all the calories immediately after eating, I slowly started to slide into guess-timating how many calories and then forgot to even add up the day's calories.  Thursday, I went into work and was fired from my job.  My first time ever being fired.  I broke my promise to myself to take three weeks off of alcohol.  I cut it short by 5 days.  The day after that I had bumped up to 132 lbs.  and I never even finished filling out...

Hi Everyone I am still following the 5:2 diet and am extremely pleased with how it has been going.  So many times I read forum posts from people that echo a goal I have for fasting, "to gain control of my eating habits" and I am finding that this 5:2 Diet does just that.  I have two "fasting" days per week in which I eat 500 calories or less and the rest of the week I eat "normally" although I have changed my normal back to eating healthy whole foods in controlled portions.  The two fasting days seem to affect the eating days in that I find I eat less and am not as hungry as usual.  Last week, I had three fasting days, actually, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.  I also went for a 5 mile run on Monday and a 4.3 mile run on Sunday.   So far I seem...

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Day 5 My intention to post a daily report has been more difficult to manage than I anticipated. Nevertheless it’s Day 5 of my fast and I’m going strong. The first 4 days of the fast I did bend the rules a bit. I work face to face with many people on a daily basis so I consume mints and chew gum when at work to help freshen my breath. I have the next 3 days off so I will have nothing but water. My starting was weight 183.6 and my weight this morning 177.2. I’ve lost a total of 6.4 lbs. I’ve got no hunger and no cravings.   Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE I’ve got my healthier gummy candy recipe on hand for when I complete the fast. That will be my personal reward.  Of the 5...

Greetings fellow fasters. I am at the tail end of week one of following The 5:2 Diet, which consists of two "fast days" and 5 days of eating "normally".  The fast days are not a complete fast, but are 500 calorie days for women (600 for men). My fast days this week were Tuesday and Thursday.  Tuesday, was my first time fasting but not actually completely fasting and since I added up my calories at the end, I realized that I had 800 calories instead of 500.  My second fast day was Thursday and I was pleased with how it came out.  I ate a low carb one meal consisting of a broccoli and cheese omelet and two cups of coffee with heavy cream and stevia.  The total calories was 515 but that was counting three 5 calorie calcium chews.  I drank a lot of water throughout the day and also...

I've been talking with folks on the January fasting forum and I have had a few suggestions to do some sort of juice fasting while I wean myself off coffee.  However, we have just had a fresh dumping of new snow and the only thing worthy of juicing or smoothie making I have is some broccoli, celery and zucchini.  Oh, and lemons and onions.  So I will be continuing on water unless I can get out and get to the store.  I may pour some hot water over some lemon slices but I won't add any sweetener to it.   I think one of the things I'd like to wean my taste buds off of is the sweet.  I switched from sugar to stevia but it seems I really like it.  Too much.  And I have noticed almost like a sugar craving from it.  I'm 12 hours into water fasting.  I...

Hi everyone One thing I have learned about fasting is that the purer it is, that is water only, the easier it is to stick to.  Today, I ended my fast at 40 hours eating some nuts.  Then I made a dinner of an omelet and decided to begin a new fast...this time water only.  My stomach was very rumbly today, at times very loudly grumbling and although I know that isn't true hunger, I chose to end the fast and begin a new one right away.  I'd prefer to start fasts at 7pm anyway, because when you wake up in the morning, you are halfway through the day.  And you get to start a new day before going to bed.  I am excited to see how well I do without my crutch of coffee, which only seems to help me get through.  Happy Fasting!!   ...
